Children's Centres Target Another Step Closer

Surrey County Council has taken another step towards its goal of providing over 70 children's centres in Surrey, after plans for a new £500,000 site were given the green light by senior councillors.

The latest centre will be housed in a new building at Bristow Infant and Nursery School, James Road, Camberley, and will provide a playroom, and a covered outdoor play area as well as community facilities. Work on the centre is due to begin in April and be completed by the end of the year.

The county council is aiming to develop the centres by April 2010 and there are already 52 across Surrey in Elmbridge, Guildford, Mole Valley, Reigate and Banstead, Runnymede, Surrey Heath, Tandridge, Waverley and Woking.

Peter Martin, Surrey County Council's Executive Member for Schools, Children and Youth Services, said: "I am delighted that the proposed children's centre in Camberley has been approved and that we are another step closer to our target of over 70 centres across Surrey. The sites will provide a one-stop-shop for advice, early education, and family support."
