Work to improve facilities at Highfields Library in Leicester began this week.

The library has recently achieved UKonline Centre status, which means it will be able to offer more computer training for local people.

The £10,000 improvements include re-organising the inside of the library to create a bigger public area, decorating, electrical work and providing a better learning environment.

Cllr Andy Connelly, Cabinet Lead for Culture said: "This work marks an exciting milestone in our community learning programme for libraries.

"Offering training and learning in an informal setting like the local community library is often the first step to encourage people back to learning.

"I'm sure the local community will appreciate the enhanced computer services and improvements to the library once this work is complete."
