Hammersmith & Fulham Council has appointed Higgins Partnerships as the main contractor for the redevelopment of Avonmore Primary School, a project that will combine a new school building with the delivery of 91 mixed-tenure homes in west London.
The scheme will replace the existing school with a new facility featuring dedicated special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) support space, enhanced outdoor play areas and modern learning environments. Alongside the education facilities, the development will provide 91 homes, with half designated as affordable and priority for eligible local residents.
Designed by BPTW in collaboration with school architects Walter & Cohen, the development will include 2,297 sq m of flexible teaching space and more than 1,500 sq m of outdoor play areas across three levels, including rooftop play space. The plans also incorporate two residential buildings designed to complement the surrounding streetscape.
The development has been designed as a net zero scheme, targeting a 74% reduction in operational carbon emissions, with the remaining emissions offset. Sustainability measures include green roofs across all buildings, around 100 solar panels and new tree planting within the surrounding community. The school is also targeting a BREEAM Excellent rating.
