Allscott Meads, led by SJ Roberts Homes, is transforming the disused factory site into a new neighbourhood of 470 properties, including 47 affordable homes owned by Housing Plus Group (HPG).
Construction started in February 2020 and is scheduled to finish in November 2026.
HPG's affordable homes are intended to help people who might otherwise be priced out of rural areas – enabling local families, key workers and younger residents to remain close to their networks.
Alongside the housing, the development provides a 150-place primary school, a commercial hub with retail units and future business space, community allotments, and the Allscott Sports Club facility with sports grounds.
Together, these elements aim to create a sustainable rural setting where people can live, learn, work and access daily services locally.
Wayne Gethings, Group Chief Executive at Housing Plus Group, said: "Rural communities need more than just new homes – they need the infrastructure, services and opportunities that enable people to put down roots and thrive. Allscott Meads is an excellent example of how thoughtful rural development can deliver affordable housing alongside schools, sports facilities, shops and community spaces that benefit both new and existing residents.
"Through our partnership with SJ Roberts Homes, we are helping to create a sustainable community that supports local people and contributes to the long-term vitality of the area. During Rural Housing Week, it is important to recognise the role that affordable housing plays in ensuring rural communities remain vibrant, inclusive and accessible for future generations."
Reusing the brownfield land has brought a derelict site back into productive use while helping to meet local housing needs.
