McLaren Completes Major Industrial Hub At Omega West

Construction News Image
McLaren Construction Midlands and North has announced the completion and handover of Indurent 420, a significant 421,249 sq ft industrial and logistics development at Omega West.

This high-specification facility represents the final phase in the transformation of the wider Omega West scheme, a major development area in St Helens.

Developed by Miller Developments and forward-funded by Indurent, Indurent 420 provides warehousing and office space built to rigorous sustainability and operational standards, achieving a BREEAM ‘Excellent' rating and an EPC A+. The project incorporated extensive sustainability measures, including the use of alternative fuels for site plant, enhanced photovoltaic panels, and the reuse of all excavated cohesive materials on site. The building is also future-proofed with natural roof lighting and infrastructure for future EV charging, alongside extensive landscaping to enhance biodiversity.

McLaren's commitment to health and safety during the scheme was evident, with over 750 personnel working more than 139,299 hours without any reportable incidents.

Community engagement was a cornerstone of McLaren's approach, involving regular communication through local newsletters, council updates, and outreach events with schools and colleges to promote construction career opportunities. The project team also engaged with local collection points for timber offcuts and surplus pallets, participated in careers' events at local schools and colleges, and supported local employment by hiring a Senior Site Manager from the St Helens community and prioritising local suppliers. Further social value activities included ongoing work experience for a Warrington College student, sponsorship of a local football team, and donations of laptops to a local boxing academy.

Gary Cramp, Managing Director of McLaren Construction Midlands and North, said: "We're very proud to have marked the completion of Indurent 420, Omega West with our partners and stakeholders on site. This development continues McLaren's strong legacy at Omega and reflects the power of collaboration, sustainability, and a commitment to delivering high-performance logistics infrastructure."

David Milloy, Managing Director of Miller Developments, added: "This celebration marks not just the end of a successful build but the continuation of our long-term vision for Omega. McLaren has once again delivered a best-in-class development."

Councillor Richard McCauley, Portfolio Holder for Regeneration at St Helens Borough Council, praised the commitment to delivering direct benefits for the local community through local suppliers and engagement with young people. Dan Austin, Director and Head of North - Logistics at Indurent, highlighted the project as a "flagship" that combines technical excellence, sustainable design, and genuine community value.

This completion builds on McLaren Construction's successful track record at Omega Business Park, following the earlier delivery of Units 2 and 3.
