InstaVolt has signed a 40-year lease to develop a new 30-bay ultra-rapid charger superhub on the A303 in Wiltshire, complete with a large café and farm shop provided by one of the UK's leading operators.
The new facility aims to serve both long-distance travellers and the local community with premium electric vehicle (EV) charging and hospitality amenities.
Located on the Fonthill Estate, approximately 10 miles west of Stonehenge, the hub is designed to support millions of drivers using the A303 each year, including tourists heading to the West Country and those travelling across the UK. The development has already secured planning permission and a grid connection, with construction expected to begin in August 2025. The site is scheduled to open in late spring 2026.
Following the successful launch of its Winchester Superhub, InstaVolt will install on-site batteries and solar panels at the Wiltshire location, enabling discounted charging periods like the 50p per kWh rate offered at Winchester this summer.
Delvin Lane, CEO of InstaVolt, said: "Chicklade is the next step in our mission to combine scale, sustainability and convenience.
"With 30 ultra-rapid chargers and an on-site farm shop and café, this peaceful stop will become a vital charging destination along the A303 – a very popular and busy route – powered by the latest in renewable energy innovation.
"As EVs become more accessible and with the private sector committing significant investment, we're proud to be building the infrastructure that will keep the country moving."
The new hub aligns with recent UK Government initiatives, supported by National Highways, to improve signage along the Strategic Road Network, including the A303. New signs will help drivers identify charging infrastructure and reassure non-EV users of the growing reliability and accessibility of EV facilities nationwide.
