Vistry Group has received planning permission from Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council to deliver 140 new homes on Leicester Road, Earl Shilton.
The development, located on the northern edge of the market town, will feature a mix of one-, two-, three-, and four-bedroom houses and maisonettes designed to complement the area’s historic character.
In a simultaneous agreement, Vistry has finalised a contract with Places for People to provide 83 of these properties as affordable homes. This collaboration brings a significant number of much-needed affordable housing options to the heart of Leicestershire.
The £31m project is situated five miles from Hinckley and 10 miles from Leicester.
A standout feature of the development is its commitment to sustainability through the use of modern methods of construction (MMC). Homes will be built using open-panel timber frames manufactured off-site at Vistry Works East Midlands, just 12 miles from the site. This approach reduces each home’s carbon footprint by 14,460kg CO2e compared to traditional brick-and-block construction.
Work on the project is set to begin in spring 2025.
Andy Reynolds, Managing Director of Vistry South East Midlands, said: "We are thrilled to have secured planning permission to start work on these much-needed mixed-tenure homes in the historic town of Earl Shilton. Working in partnership with Places for People means that this development will not only meet the housing needs of the area but will blend family-friendly homes and green open spaces to create a thriving and sustainable community for the future."
