Construction work on the No. 1 Spinningfields development in Manchester is almost complete.
BAM Construction has handed the building over to Allied London.
The firm delivered the tallest commercial office building in the city within 106 weeks and met the original Practical Completion date.
Designed by architect SimpsonHaugh, the development marks the final phase of development of the Spinningfields masterplan. No.1 tenants such as WeWork and D&D London will continue to improve and evolve the Spinningfields offering, whilst the Pavillion - also under construction by BAM - will be home to the Ivy in Manchester.
Michael Ingall, Allied London Chief Executive, commented: "We are delighted to reach what is a milestone for this project and also a great milestone for Spinningfields. 20 years from start to finish, with 12 years of construction either side of a major economic financial crisis. The fact the development remained unscathed and has now completed is testament to the vision, design, and management.
"Spinningfields has achieved its vision and will now without doubt continue to sustain and develop as the corporate heartbeat of the city and continue to set a benchmark for the development of city centre commercial environments."
BAM Construction Director, Tony Grindrod, said: "To achieve construction of such a large, high-quality building within just 106 weeks and meet the required Practical Completion date, the team had to overcome a number of challenges along the way. All of them had the potential to push completion further and further past the end date, but the BAM team with our supply chain and Allied London’s team pulled together in a genuine one team approach to address each and every one of those challenges to prevent potential delays from happening."
