Plans have been approved for a major development project at Waterloo Station in London.

Proposals by London and Continental Railways (LCR) and Network Rail include creating 135,000 sq ft of retail space at the former Eurostar terminal.

The development will create a mix of independent, high street and food stores, spread across three floors, as well as a new mezzanine level. Several new western entrances will also be built to accommodate anticipated growth in passenger numbers on the routes serving Waterloo Station in the future.

Improved links will also be created at Leake Street and Lower Marsh, with the new facilities complementing local businesses and the wider regeneration of the Southbank and Leake Street.

The scheme will create around 700 new jobs as well as hundreds of roles during its construction period.

The project is part of the Wessex Capacity Improvement Programme being delivered by Network Rail at Waterloo.
