Network Rail Engineers Complete Freight Line Upgrade Work

Work to upgrade freight railway lines serving the port of Immingham is now complete, Network Rail has announced.

The newly resignalled section of track was reopened on 30 December following five days of engineering work.

The works focused primarily on replacing the 100-year-old signalling on freight lines two and from the port.

Work on passenger lines in north Lincolnshire, north east Lincolnshire and others parts of the Lincolnshire region will now continue until 11 January.

Overall, £96.5 million is being invested in the scheme, with 16 level crossing being upgraded and two bridges being replaced.

In addition, 13 signal boxes will be closed while 60 miles of track will be re-signalled between Scunthorpe and Cleethorpes.

Mark Tarry, Route MD for Network Rail, said: "This major upgrade of the railway has been two years in the planning with the support of the port, industry and local authorities."
