ISG Awarded £7.5m Contract

Construction News Image
ISG has been appointed to develop a £7.5m visitor centre scheme at The Royal Mint in Wales.

The project involves building the visitor centre outside of the facilities perimeter in Llantrisant.

A dedicated car park and a footbridge over a river to link the car park with the visitors centre will also be developed.

The single-storey steel frame building will aim to achieve a BREEAM 'Very Good' environmental rating.

It is to include a large interactive exhibition space, along with a visitor cafe, including a full catering kitchen and classroom space for visiting school parties.

Jon James, ISG's Western regional director, said: "The Royal Mint is the UK's oldest manufacturer and currently produces currency for around 60 countries. The visitor centre will provide an opportunity for visitors to see a coin minting operation of world renown.

"The project is not only prestigious, it is also a complex scheme spread across two sites with both environmental and aesthetic considerations, further strengthening ISG's strong presence in Wales and our track record for delivering iconic buildings."
