Wates Construction has been appointed to develop Brookgate's office scheme in Cambridge.
Wates will be working alongside project architects, Pringle Brandon Perkins+Will, building services and sustainability consultant, Hilson Moran and structural engineers Mott MacDonald.
The Cambridge-based property developer looks to advance its CB1 masterplan, which is set to transform the city's gateway. 'One The Square' will comprise 129,295 sq ft of Grade A office space and 13,379 sq ft of retail provision.
Wates is currently preparing the site for the new development at Station Square, with main preliminary works carried out over a 47-week programme. Construction on the new building is scheduled to begin in February next year, with project completion expected for the end of 2016.
One The Square has an extensive energy efficiency strategy, led by Hilson Moran, with sustainability features including water conservation, 568 cycle spaces and shower facilities to encourage green employee transport. Passive design measures, including maximised natural daylight and low energy lighting, will also contribute to the building’s expected BREEAM Excellent rating.
The scheme will be built alongside Abellio Greater Anglia’s work to redesign Cambridge train station, including an enlarged ticket hall and improved customer service facilities.
