Developers Start Next Phase On Plymouth Development

Developers have started work on the next phase of house building on Plymouth's £120m Mount Wise development of the formal naval headquarters, thanks to an investment of £5.5m by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).

The investment has come from the HCA’s Get Britain Building programme, which is helping house builders deliver more than 15,000 new homes across the country, protecting and creating thousands of jobs.

The news follows the progress made at Mount Wise since 2010, with 159 homes now completed and 95% sold in phase one of this key regeneration scheme for Plymouth. Phase 2 delivers a further 89 homes in the heart of the scheme.

Thirty of the new homes will flank Admiralty House, the listed centre piece of the development and one of the most historically important buildings in maritime history. A sympathetic planning and listed building consent has been approved that will preserve and enhance the setting of the principle house and secure the renovation and reuse of the courtyards and wings for residential.

Complementing the new dwellings within Admiralty Row will be fifty-nine Georgian inspired homes and apartments around a new square framing the historic house. A range of unit types will be available from one bedroom apartments to four bedroom houses.

Emma Faraday, Mount Wise development advisor, said: "We are delighted to have completed the funding agreement with the Homes and Communities Agency under its Get Britain Building programme. This partnership will continue the momentum of regeneration from Phase 1 and deliver the heart of this historic project and continue to build the already strong community feel at Mount Wise."

Janet Ventre, HCA Area Manager, said: "Mount Wise is a really important project to us because we recognise the impact that regenerating this site and providing good quality homes will have to the city.

"We supported the first phase of development with investment, which helped to bring new affordable homes to this important scheme. It is good to see that this latest support will be used to assist further progress on the site."
