A £4.8 million housing development that has transformed the derelict former college site on St Mary's Road in Kettering has been officially opened with the laying of a stone plaque.
Forty affordable homes at St Mary's Road and Tresham Close have been provided by Waterloo Housing Group working in partnership with Kettering Borough Council, developer William Davis Ltd and North Northants Development Company.
The development was also supported by £1.9 million of grant funding from the government’s Homes and Communities Agency.
The new affordable homes comprise 26 rented homes, which have been let to local people through the council’s housing allocation scheme, together with 8 homes sold through shared ownership, on a part-buy and part-rent basis, by Waterloo Homes.
The site, which ranges from one-bedroom apartments to four-bedroom houses, also features a further eight homes developed for outright sale by William Davis.
Councillor Steve Bellamy, portfolio holder for housing at Kettering Borough Council, said: "It's great to bear witness to the successful outcome of the partnership. This scheme provides urgently needed new homes that are especially well-designed and complement the locality."
