Adrien Godard, a French mason and painter, recently downed tools in his home town of Besancon, France, for a chance to work as an English apprentice with affordable housing developer Lovell on its new 123-home, Six Streets development in Hyde Park, Doncaster.

Adrien joined Lovell as part of the European Exchange Programme, organised by Business & Education South Yorkshire in association with French agency Les Compagnons du Devoir, which runs Europe’s oldest apprenticeship training scheme.


During the two-week work experience programme, Adrien worked alongside Lovell apprentice Michael Cox on the Six Streets housing development. It was Adrien's first experience of working on a construction site where he had the opportunity to master new skills and bricklaying techniques that will help him develop his trade skills. Adrien was also provided with a Lovell work experience pack that enabled him to collect evidence and photos of his project work.

"We were really impressed with Adrien’s bricklaying work and his enthusiasm and commitment to his work placement with us," said Bruce Boughton, Lovell training manager. "He was a pleasure to have on site and made a valuable contribution to our construction team."

On completion of his two-week placement, Adrien received a certificate of attendance from Lovell and a written reference from his site manager Rob Kerr.
