Pupils from The Trinity Primary School, on Titchfield Street, Liverpool, welcomed E.ON's Insulation Challenge when they took time out of the classroom to learn about energy efficiency.
Tasked with insulating playhouses, teams of year five and six pupils got creative with materials such as cotton wool, cardboard and polythene. One of the most innovative and energy efficient designs was awarded to Georgia Holden, Mia Hardacre, Zak Ikin, Mia Cassidy, Thomas Morley and Malcolm Banana, all from year five, who all won fun gadget prizes, including wind up torches.
This activity formed part of E.ON's Insulation Challenge, a fun, educational workshop, designed to help children understand the principle of insulation and how to conserve energy in and around the home.
In another exercise, four pupils were given extra layers of clothing to wear and everyone took part in a short physical session, which involved jogging around the playground. The participants then discussed why their warmly wrapped classmates were hotter and identified the role of insulation in this.
Christine McNamara, Deputy Head Teacher, at The Trinity Primary School, said: "It was a great day. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed the activities and now understand the value insulation can bring to a home. The session was a real eye opener for the students and really got them thinking about energy."
