Stockton North MP Alex Cunningham has praised a partnership between The Prince's Trust youth charity and support services and construction company Carillion aimed at helping young unemployed people find work.
The Prince's Trust and Carillion work together to run the Get into Construction programme, which gives unemployed young people the skills and qualifications to find jobs in the construction industry.
The Prince's Trust and Carillion have now helped eight young people from Teesside through the Get into Construction course at the North Shore Health Academy (NSHA) development - where Carillion is Stockton-on-Tees'' construction partner on the Academy Schools building project.
Last year The Prince's Trust supported more than 3,700 unemployed young people in the North East, giving them the skills and confidence to find a job.
While visiting the NHSA development Mr Cunningham was able to meet the trainees and see the type of on-site work experience they receive.
Presenting qualification certificates that will allow them to pursue a career in construction, he said: "I congratulate these eight young people on their hard work and success and I wish them well for the future. This is a showcase of collaboration and partnership between a leading charity and a private company to give young, often disadvantaged people, the chance they need to gain work and establish stability in their lives.
"Given the current challenging times with more than a million young people not in employment, education or training, it is vital that we offer these opportunities and I applaud The Prince's Trust and Carillion for their efforts."
