Massive Climber Beam Shipment Transported Successfully

The largest steel fabricator in the West of Scotland transported two massive climber beam structures from Westway in Renfrew through the road network of west and southern Scotland to The Port of Tyne, in the north-east of England.

Steel Engineering transported the huge shipment from its base to Northumberland-based IHV Engineering Business Ltd as part of a £1.2m contract for the deck equipment system for a new ship being built for global company Technip.


Each beam weighs more than 120 tonnes and extends to 43 metres in length, making them the longest fabricated structures ever to be transported from Westway in the long history of the park.

Peter Breslins, Steel Engineering's managing director, told Renfreshire Chamber of Commerce: "This was a major contract for Steel Engineering and I am very proud of the hard work and skills of my team in order to complete it to an extremely high standard and within timescale. As a company, we have focused on securing renewable energy contacts and are now firmly established within this sector. I am delighted to report a very healthy order book, which has enabled us to increase our turnover and double our workforce over the next year."
