Construction union UCATT is currently preparing for the election of its General Secretary. During the process, prospective candidates for election were required to attend the union's Selection Committee, in accordance with the union’s rulebook, on 26th October 2011.
Following that meeting the Selection Committee has decided that Michael Dooley and Alan Ritchie do not fulfil the criteria as suitable candidates for the position of General Secretary. The decision was taken on the basis of the interview on 26th October.
Michael Dooley and Alan Ritchie have been informed of the Selection Committee's decision and their names have been removed from the ballot paper. The Selection Committee's decision has been ratified by the Executive Council.
The remaining two candidates Steve Murphy and Jerry Swain, will go forward to the full ballot. Ballot papers will be distributed to the union’s membership entitled to vote, on 11th November 2011.
