A 56-year-old paddling pool in the Cambridgeshire village of Papworth Everard has been given a new lease of life thanks to a £50,000 refurbishment by Peverel Pools.
The concrete paddling pool in the village's recreation ground closed for several months for the much-needed work to be carried out but opened again recently in time for spring!
Peverel owner, John Hannah said: "The pool is a typical concrete 1950's paddling pool, completely open to the public in Papworth Everard. It was, before the works, about 18 inches deep, unhested and without a filtration system and it had to be emptied at least twice a week in summer."
But now the figure-of-eight shaped pool, which is 18m x 25m, has undergone a total transformation. The pool has been completely re-surfaced with fibre glass, a UV water treatment system and a control panel with an Astral filtration system.
John said: "The pool is now one metre deep and block paving surrounds the entire paddling pool which will help solve the problems that have been encountered with a lot of mud getting into the water. With the new filtration system, the pool will now only be emptied at the end of the summer season - thus making it much more environmentally friendly by saving masses of water. it is also a huge visual improvement."
Papworth Everard Parish Councillor, Paul Phillips, chairman of the Village's Playing Fields Committee said: "We are absolutely delighted with it! All we need is for the sun to start shining!"
