Norwich's Centre Plans 'Progressing'

Innovative proposals to regenerate Norwich's northern city centre are well underway with the formal adoption of an action plan.

This means the action plan can be used alongside the adopted local plan to form planning decisions in the northern city centre.

And work has already begun on the delivery of the plan's policies and proposals with a new programme board set up to oversee delivery.

Current activity includes the construction of the St Augustine's gyratory scheme, planned to be completed by late 2010, and improvements to Gildencroft Park which should be completed shortly.

Councillor Brian Morrey, Executive Member for Sustainable City Development, said: "This part of the city has a rich heritage and cultural interest, as well as a distinctive identity. The plan will enhance these as well as providing a safe and attractive public environment."

It proposes mixed use redevelopment of a number of major sites, including Anglia Square, St Mary's Works, and the land west of Whitefriars, as well as numerous smaller sites.

me board include city council officers, a local ward councillor, local residents and representatives from the business community, representatives from Norfolk County Council, the Greater Norwich Development Partnership and the East of England Development Agency.
