E.ON Hosts Conference On The Future Of Energy

E.ON has welcomed delegates from 50 secondary schools from all over the UK at a special conference designed to give them the opportunity to have their say on the future of energy.

The Schools Energy Conference was held at the National College for School Leadership, a state-of-the-art eco-friendly venue in Nottingham, with the day based on the E.ON Energy Experience, which provides teachers with energy learning packs and resources for children aged five to 16. The day's workshops and activities brought to life the energy challenges facing us all on a local, national and global scale.

Presented by John Stapleton, from GMTV, the conference was also attended by energy experts from E.ON, Nottingham MP Alan Simpson, previously named Environmental Politician of the Year, and Dame Ellen MacArthur, who is leading E.ON's Energy Marshalls campaign.

She said: "It was both refreshing and inspiring to spend the day amongst such positive and imaginative young people. It fills you with hope to see their dedication and commitment to the future."

Science teacher Sanjeev Beri from Colonel Frank Seely School in Calverton attended the first conference last year and believes that the day adds value to his students' learning.

He said: "The conference provides a unique atmosphere in which to experience key energy issues, and we've found it a really useful addition to teaching in the classroom.

"The best thing about this event is that it encourages students to consider the relationships between energy, the environment and stakeholders in a variety of ways. It gets them to think about what changing energy means in practical terms and helps to develop their team building and decision-making skills.

"They really enjoyed meeting John Stapleton, and students from other schools. They also got a lot from asking questions of those directly involved of the energy challenges of today."
