Mouchel Group's Pre-tax Profit Soars

Surrey-based Mouchel Group (formerly Mouchel Parkman) has announced a pre-tax profit of £48 million – a staggering 82 per cent rise over 2006’s figure of £26 million.

The latest annual results (12 months to July 31st) show an increase in revenue of 20 per cent to £448.4 million.

Approximately 70 per cent of revenue derived from long-term outsourcing activities in each of the Group's main sectors, almost all of which derive from projects in the UK public sector and regulated industries.

Group operating margins also rose, from 7.2 per cent to 7.4 per cent.

Commenting on the results, Mouchel Group Chief Executive, Richard Cuthbert, said: "We have enjoyed another period of excellent progress for the Group. Our trading position remains strong, having just announced record underlying operating profits; 23 per cent up on last year.

“In addition, our order book and bidding pipeline are both at an all time high of £2.2 billion and £2.5 billion respectively, reflecting our success in tendering and securing new work and the wide range of opportunities which we are currently pursuing.”

Cuthbert also commented on his confidence of the group’s future prospects: "We have done much to support the future development of the Group, and this is reflected in the £90 million invested in four acquisitions we have made over the last 12 months which significantly strengthen our standing in highways, water, management consultancy and, most recently, in the business process outsourcing (BPO) marketplace through the acquisition of HBS.”

In addition to the release of the annual results the Group revealed their re-branding to Mouchel Group.

Reflecting on the re-brand Mouchel Group Marketing Director, Ian Parker, said: "It as much about the future as looking back at our heritage. Although we're the second largest employer of civil and structural engineers in the UK, the company has changed dramatically over the past four years.

“The name Mouchel is being used to recognise a 'consulting and business services group', which encompasses 11,000 engineers, management consultants and commercial and technical professionals."

The name Mouchel reverts back to the Group's days as a traditional engineering consultancy practice; Mouchel began trading in 1897 with a licence to use reinforce concrete using iron bars, and rapidly grew to become a name synonymous with quality and integrity in the industry.

Mouchel's early work included Liverpool's Royal Liver Building, Earls Court and the Battersea Power Station cooling towers in London, and football stands for Liverpool Football Club and Manchester City Football Club.
