Revolutionising Sustainable Construction with Precision-Manufactured Timber Frame Building Systems

Construction News Image

UK-based collaboration brings together leading sustainable construction specialists to deliver faster, more accurate and environmentally responsible building solutions.

We Build Eco, a pioneering collaboration between some of the UK's leading sustainable construction organisations, is transforming the way timber frame buildings are designed, manufactured and assembled. By combining advanced digital technology, precision engineering and natural building materials, the company is making high-performance, eco-friendly construction more accessible to self-builders, architects, developers and commercial clients across the UK.

The venture brings together expertise from Ecomerchant, STEICO, Kithurst Homes, Build Collective and Charlie Luxton Design, creating a unique end-to-end solution for the manufacture and delivery of sustainable timber frame kit buildings tailored to virtually any design.

At the heart of the We Build Eco system is a state-of-the-art 5-axis Hundegger CNC saw, which converts digital building models into accurately manufactured timber frame components. Working directly from 3D models generated from architectural drawings, the system can cut structural elements with an accuracy of up to 1.5mm, significantly reducing construction errors and material waste.

The manufacturing process also delivers substantial efficiency gains. A typical 100m² house frame can be cut in as little as two and a half hours, enabling faster project delivery while maintaining exceptional quality standards.

Each component is individually labelled and marked with assembly instructions, allowing the completed kit to be delivered to site as a flat-pack system. Packed in installation order, the components can be assembled quickly and efficiently, simplifying the construction process and reducing reliance on traditional site-based fabrication methods.

The innovative approach offers a range of benefits, including reduced construction waste, lower transport emissions, improved build quality and shorter project timescales. By moving much of the construction process into a controlled manufacturing environment, We Build Eco also helps improve consistency and predictability throughout a project.

As demand continues to grow for low-carbon, energy-efficient buildings, We Build Eco is positioning itself at the forefront of a new generation of sustainable construction solutions. By integrating digital design, precision manufacturing and natural building materials, the company is helping to shape a more sustainable future for the UK construction industry.

"We believe sustainable construction should be simpler, faster and more accessible," said a spokesperson for We Build Eco. "By bringing together expertise from across the industry and embracing advanced manufacturing technologies, we are enabling clients to deliver high-performance buildings with greater confidence, efficiency and environmental responsibility."

With increasing pressure on the construction sector to reduce carbon emissions and improve building performance, We Build Eco's innovative manufacturing model demonstrates how technology and collaboration can work together to deliver practical, scalable solutions for the future of building.
