The Council and its contractors have maintained the sea defences at Overstrand for many years. Two sections of the sea wall have recently been identified as seriously undermined and now need substantial repairs.
The planned programme includes replacing corroded steel sheet piling and strengthening the structure with concrete at the two most vulnerable locations. The intention is to extend the life of the sea defences, with completion required before the winter storm season.
The project to upgrade and repair the sea wall is moving ahead. The first phase involves the delivery of 500 steel sheet piles. To minimise disruption for residents, the piles will be offloaded at Cromer's Runton Road car park before being transferred to Overstrand.
The first sheet piles are due to arrive in Cromer in the week commencing Monday 22 June. From Tuesday 23 June, they will be moved to Overstrand on suitable lorries via the tarmacked beach access at Clifton Way into the site compound, a process expected to take around seven days.
Once a contractor has been formally appointed, they will set up in the site compound at the bottom of Clifton Way.
The Overstrand Coastal Management Scheme is scheduled to take place over the summer and early autumn and will require localised closures of the sea wall in Overstrand during the works.
