Every so often, a project comes along that reminds the team at Handle-iT why they love what they do — and this one was truly special. Way back during the dark times of Covid, the company received a call to brighten everyone's days when none other than Joanna Lumley was on the phone. She contacted Handle-iT to help with a unique request.
The team were both delighted and humbled. Joanna had purchased a vintage carousel horse which she wanted to use and move about her den for herself and her grandchildren to enjoy. She required a custom-designed dolly to safely mount and move her cherished fairground carousel horse — a beautifully ornate piece with huge sentimental value.
The Handle-iT design team got straight to work, crafting a bespoke solution that would provide stability and mobility while also complimenting the elegance of the horse itself. Every weld, wheel, and fitting was carefully considered — just as the company does for any of its valued customers.
But here's what made the project even more meaningful. Instead of paying for the design and fabrication, Joanna suggested that a donation be made to a local children's ward — a cause very close to the Managing Director's heart.
Handle-iT could not have agreed more. In true Handle-iT and Lumley spirit, the job was completed and Joanna made a donation to the Paediatric Oncology department at Bramble Ward, Exeter Hospital. The ward is close to the hearts of those at the company following the amazing, attentive care that the staff there provide. The initiative successfully brought together craftsmanship, kindness, and community — the very values the company is proud to stand for.
Moments like these remind the team that engineering and empathy can go hand in hand — and that sometimes, the most rewarding projects are not measured in invoices, but in impact.
Handle-iT extended its thanks to Joanna for trusting the business to bring her vision to life, and for turning a simple request into something truly heartwarming.
