Dogger Bank Wind Farm Launches 2026 STEM Scholarship Programme

Construction News Image

Students from South Tyneside, Redcar and Cleveland, and East Riding of Yorkshire are invited to apply for the 2026 Dogger Bank Wind Farm Scholarship Programme, which offers £5,000 to undergraduates studying science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

The awards are designed to ease the rising costs of higher education and form part of Dogger Bank Wind Farm's £26 million community investment dedicated to supporting local communities.

This year, a further 30 scholarships will be made available to students from areas closest to the wind farm's construction and operational bases, reducing financial pressure and reinforcing the project's long-term commitment to STEM education in its host regions.

Applications are open now and close on 5 July. Shortlisting will take place in the final week of July, with Scholars announced in August.

So far, 123 students have benefited from Dogger Bank's scholarship support, covering subjects such as physics, medicine, surveying and aerospace engineering, reflecting the breadth of STEM opportunities.

Located more than 130km off the North East coast, Dogger Bank Wind Farm will generate enough electricity to power around six million UK homes. The project is a joint venture between SSE, Equinor and Vårgrønn.

SSE Renewables is leading development and construction, while Equinor will operate the wind farm throughout its expected 35-year operational life. Vårgrønn contributes offshore wind expertise.

The wind farm is being delivered in three phases – A, B and C – with grid connections in East Riding of Yorkshire and Teesside. An operations and maintenance base in South Shields will support the project over its lifetime.

Applications for the 2026 Dogger Bank Scholarship Programme can be made via Blackbullion.
