Kier has secured an extension to its role on South West Water's Network Services Alliance, with an indicative value of around £140m, running until March 2028. Under the deal, Kier remains the sole contractor delivering services across the utility's operational area.
The move continues a partnership spanning more than 20 years between the two organisations and underpins day-to-day front-line network activities.
The scope includes both reactive and planned maintenance across the network, alongside the ongoing rollout of smart metering to help customers better understand their daily water use.
Over the last year, Kier completed more than 25,000 repair and maintenance jobs across the region, including over 18,000 leak repairs, and carried out more than 32,000 metering optant and maintenance activities. Performance on urgent reactive work remained strong, with over 97% of priority jobs attended within the two-hour target, and average response times of around one hour during peak periods.
As part of the extension, Kier will continue delivering repair and maintenance, leakage activity, network reliability schemes, metering and developer services. The agreement also supports local supply chains and skills development across the South West.
Andy Lingham, managing director for Water at Kier Infrastructure, said: "This extension reflects the strength of our relationship with South West Water and the consistency of delivery across the network. Across the last year, our teams have delivered more than 25,000 repair and maintenance jobs, alongside over 32,000 metering activities, maintaining performance across a high-volume operational environment. The work is continuous and forms a critical part of how the network performs day to day. It is about delivering reliably at scale, responding when needed and maintaining the standards our clients and their customers expect."
Sam Bottomley, Director of Water Services at South West Water, said: "I am very pleased to see the continuation of our long-standing partnership with Kier through this significant extension of the Network Services Alliance. The scale and consistency of Kier's delivery, completing tens of thousands of maintenance, leakage, and metering activities each year, plays a vital role in ensuring we provide a reliable, high-performing service to our customers every day. Their strong focus on responsive operations, network resilience, and customer service, alongside meaningful investment in local skills, jobs, and community value, aligns closely with our own priorities and values. This extension gives us confidence that together we can continue to improve performance, reduce leakage, and continue to provide wholesome drinking water to our customers, while building a more sustainable and resilient network for the future."
The extension builds on Kier's activity across AMP8, including appointments and reappointments with Anglian Water, Severn Trent, South West Water, Southern Water, Thames Water, United Utilities and Yorkshire Water.
