Mitie has expanded its partnership with the Government Property Agency (GPA), landing a £4 million, three-year facilities management contract to support refurbished offices in Peterborough and Whitehall. The deal spans three sites: Quay House, the flagship regional hub in Peterborough, and two Grade II-listed buildings at 3–8 and 55 Whitehall in Westminster.
Under the agreement, Mitie's engineers will deliver predictive mechanical and engineering maintenance, monitoring equipment such as heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems to pre-empt faults, minimise disruption and extend asset life.
To help the GPA deliver safe, resilient workplaces fit for a modern workforce, Mitie will also provide specialist compliance services, including water hygiene, electrical testing, and fire and security systems testing. The work will support the safety and wellbeing of occupants from seven government departments, including the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA), the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ), Great British Nuclear, and His Majesty's Passport Office.
The contract includes the transfer of colleagues to Mitie under TUPE, the creation of new full-time engineer roles, 12 facilities management work placements at Quay House for young people facing barriers to employment, and an advanced NVQ Level 3 Leadership apprenticeship for colleagues at the Whitehall sites. In line with Mitie's 'Plan Thrive' pledge to uplift 1 million people and 1,000 places, the programme also commits 120 volunteering hours for careers fairs, building pathways into facilities management, and the use of local specialist suppliers to bolster regional economies.
Andrew Rawdon, Managing Director, Central Government, Mitie, said: "Working closely with the Government Property Agency, Mitie's engineers will bring extensive expertise to help keep Quay House running and balance the contemporary needs of a modern workforce with the historic architecture of the Whitehall buildings. The addition of our specialist compliance services will ensure the buildings remain safe and secure."
