International property and construction consultancy Gleeds has been chosen as the lead consultant tasked with developing the Regeneration Framework for the Trent Sports District. The major project is set to serve as a significant driver of economic growth for Nottingham and the wider East Midlands region.
The completed framework will establish a comprehensive delivery strategy and a long-term vision focused on sport-led regeneration across the location. It is designed to support the broader Trent Arc plan, an initiative spearheaded by the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA). Boasting one of the densest groupings of sports venues anywhere in Europe, the District aims to leverage Nottingham's established sporting infrastructure to generate employment, stimulate local business and housing opportunities, upgrade public areas, and foster year-round tourism.
With a core objective of driving inclusive growth, the strategy will feature a roadmap to enhance walking, cycling, and public transport infrastructure, linking the District with Nottingham Station, the city centre, and neighbouring communities. Furthermore, it will incorporate initiatives to bolster sport from grass-roots activities to elite levels, while creating new avenues for local residents to improve their skills and find employment.
Gleeds will guide development, project, programme, and cost management for a specialist consortium that includes Leonard Design, Arup, and Savills. Both Gleeds and Savills have previously contributed to early planning stages for the recently proposed stadium expansion at Nottingham Forest Football Club, which is designated as the anchor project for the new framework. Leonard Design and Arup also bring extensive local expertise, having collaborated with the EMCCA and its predecessors over the past five years to deliver the Trent Masterplan and early concepts for the Trent Sports District.
Matt Darby, Regional Managing Director of Gleeds in the Midlands, said: "Gleeds has deep roots in the East Midlands, and the Trent Sports District presents a unique opportunity to shape a bold vision for the future of the region. As lead consultant, our approach is built around the principle that the framework must establish the Trent Sports District as an active destination of national significance, while being practical enough to guide decisions on land, infrastructure, investment and delivery. We are delighted to have been appointed to drive this landmark project alongside our experienced consortium partners."
Development of the Regeneration Framework is currently in progress, with the project slated for completion by summer 2027.
