Jones Homes Yorkshire has appointed Tom Dixon as its new Head of Technical, a strategic move designed to bolster the company's shift toward low-carbon technologies. With over two decades of experience in the construction sector, including a six-year tenure as engineering manager at Miller Homes, Dixon will lead a team of four from the divisional headquarters in Cleckheaton.
A primary focus for the new Head of Technical will be the comprehensive roll-out of air source heat pumps across all forthcoming developments. This initiative aligns with the Government's Future Homes Standard, which aims to significantly reduce carbon emissions in new-build properties. Beyond renewable energy integration, Dixon will oversee engineering solutions for infrastructure, drainage, highways, and external works.
The Yorkshire division has already completed its first development utilising air source heat pumps in Golcar, Huddersfield. Looking ahead to the remainder of 2026, the company is seeking planning permission for over 450 new homes across seven sites, all of which are slated to feature heat pump technology and underfloor heating in larger detached models.
Tom Dixon commented on his new role: "At Jones Homes, we are ahead of the curve as the industry focuses on the changes needed to meet the requirements of the Future Homes Standard, which is designed to reduce carbon emissions in the drive towards net zero.
"Jones Homes has made the decision to move away from gas boilers completely to the more environmentally friendly alternative of air source heat pumps.
"As a region, we have recently completed our first development which utilises air source heat pumps at Golcar, Huddersfield, and are looking to secure planning permission on more than 450 new homes across seven sites in 2026. All homes at these developments would be heated with air source heat pumps, along with underfloor heating in larger detached homes.
"This new role is a step-up from my previous position as engineering manager. As Head of Technical, I will have a major part to play in the engineering, planning and architecture of all developments. It is an exciting challenge that I am looking forward to meeting.
"Jones Homes has a reputation within the industry for building properties that have the wow factor. They construct well-built, high-quality homes with high specification and immaculate finishes. Having the chance to work for the company and to be in an important role where I can influence the future success of the Yorkshire division is an incredible opportunity."
David Ruffley, Regional Director at Jones Homes Yorkshire, added: "Continual changes in regulations bring new challenges in engineering, planning and architectural disciplines. Tom will help us transition these changes and ensure we can come up with effective design solutions while embracing the new Future Homes Standard.
"Tom's appointment as Head of Technical is therefore an extremely significant one for the business. He has made an excellent start over the past few weeks. I'm delighted to welcome someone with his wealth of experience to the role. I am sure his expertise and leadership skills will continue to prove invaluable as we look to embrace recent design changes brought in by the Government."
