Procast Group Delivering £5.2m Retrofit Works To Tackle Fuel Poverty

Construction News Image

Retrofit specialists Procast Group are executing up to £5.2 million of works to deliver energy efficiency upgrades across Westmorland and Furness.

The allocation is part of a major £11.8m programme to improve homes and cut carbon emissions in Cumbria.

The works form Lot 1 of the Westmorland & Furness Council Retrofit Delivery scheme, funded through the Warm Homes Local Grant by the Department for Energy Security & Net Zero (DESNZ).

Over the next few years, Hamilton-based firm Procast Group will deliver comprehensive retrofit works to around 420 fuel-poor homes, helping households reduce energy costs and improve living conditions.

The scheme is designed to help meet the UK's Net Zero 2050 targets, focusing on upgrading homes currently rated EPC D-G to achieve an EPC C standard or better.

Under the contract, Procast Group are providing a full end-to-end PAS2035 and PAS2030-compliant service, including assessments, installations, and final handovers.

Works include a range of energy efficiency measures such as insulation, solar photovoltaic (PV) panels, heat pumps and battery storage systems. The technologies will both lower energy consumption and support the transition to cleaner, more sustainable housing.

Tracey McKenna, Renewable Energy Project Manager at Procast Group, said: "This work is an important step forward for us as a business and for the communities we serve.

"Rising energy costs and the need to decarbonise our homes make this work more urgent than ever. We're proud to partner with Westmorland & Furness Council to deliver high-quality retrofits that will make a real difference for the community."

In addition to technical upgrades, Procast has pledged significant social value commitments as part of the contract.

These include supporting one fully-funded training place each year for a domestic energy assessor candidate, creating apprenticeship opportunities and prioritising local suppliers throughout the programme.
