Kent County Council has welcomed a £865,000 award from Arts Council England for Turner Contemporary, secured through the Creative Foundations Fund as part of the government's £1.5 billion Arts Everywhere Fund.
The funding is earmarked for essential maintenance and capital works to safeguard the gallery's building, ensuring it remains safe, accessible and operational for the long term. It will protect core infrastructure and support Turner Contemporary’s capacity to host exhibitions to international standards, while maintaining public access and strengthening long‑term resilience.
Planned improvements include tackling statutory and operational risks relating to compliance, sustainability and building performance; upgrading mechanical and electrical systems; enhancing gallery environments to meet international exhibition standards; improving accessibility; and installing solar panels to improve environmental performance and support long‑term operational sustainability.
The award is being administered and delivered by Arts Council England on behalf of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.
