Yorkshire Water has begun a £1.5 million scheme to replace 3.6km of water mains in Keighley.
The upgrade is designed to improve the resilience of drinking water supplies, cut leakage and reduce the risk of bursts. It forms part of Yorkshire Water’s £406m programme to renew more than 1,000km of mains across the region over the next five years.
Work starts on Braithewaite Avenue, with further mains renewal scheduled on North Dean Avenue, Bankfield Drive, Whinfield Close, Coronation Way, West Bank Close, West Bank Rise, Hill Top Way, Hill Top Walk, Braithewaite Drive and Whinfield Avenue.
The Keighley project sits alongside other mains replacement schemes under way or recently completed in Bradford, including a £1.5m scheme in Laisterdyke, a £700,000 project in Oakworth and a £355,000 scheme in Lower Wyke.
Scott Gammon, project manager at Yorkshire Water, said: "As part of Yorkshire Water's largest ever investment into its infrastructure, we are delivering a significant upgrade to our clean water network.
"This area in Keighley is prone to leaks and bursts, and so this is a vitally important scheme which will help us to deliver the quality and reliability of service that our customers expect – loss of supply and disruption should be much less likely going forward."
For the safety of residents, road users and colleagues, temporary traffic management will be in place around the works and will move as the project progresses.
