Nottingham City Libraries has confirmed that the rebuilt Sherwood Library will welcome visitors from Friday 17 April 2026, signalling a long-awaited return of the service to the neighbourhood following major redevelopment.
Designed as a light, modern and inclusive venue, the library will offer a colourful children's area, free WiFi, public computers, study tables, comfortable seating and a bookable meeting room, creating flexible spaces for learning, connection and community use.
A distinctive balcony will be planted with greenery supplied by Woodthorpe Park Nursery, providing a tranquil, leafy spot for reading and relaxation just off Sherwood High Street.
An opening programme is being finalised and will be announced shortly. Plans include live performances, activities for children, school sessions and more. After launch, a regular schedule of events will include Totstime, reading groups and craft sessions.
To keep services running ahead of opening day, the Mobile Library will continue to operate until Saturday 11 April, ensuring residents have uninterrupted access to books and other resources.
To mark the occasion, existing members can pick up a new library card free of charge during opening week, including a special limited Sherwood edition created by a Nottingham-based artist. It’s also an ideal moment for anyone with a lapsed membership or needing a replacement card to rejoin.
Councillor Neghat Khan, Leader of Nottingham City Council, said: "I'm incredibly excited to announce that Sherwood Library will open on Friday 17 April. This is a really important moment for the community.
"We know how much this library means to local people. Throughout this journey, residents have told us how much they've missed it and how important it is to have this space back at the heart of Sherwood.
"The new library is a fantastic space -bright, welcoming and full of opportunities for people of all ages. I'm looking forward to seeing the community come back together here and make it their own once again.
"I said we would get this library open by spring, and I'm proud we've been able to deliver on that. It’s been a complex project, and I want to thank the teams across the Council who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make this happen."
