Broadway Green Welcomes New 19-Acre Linear Park In Oldham

A new 19-acre linear park on Foxdenton Lane has opened to the public, delivered by Oldham Council and its partners as part of the Broadway Green development.

The green corridor adjoins newly built housing and nearby commercial sites, offering residents fresh outdoor space to explore.

Construction began in February 2024, with the first phase adding footpaths, viewpoints, tree and shrub planting, and wildflower meadows. A new play area, designed to blend into the park’s natural setting, has since been completed.

Cllr Elaine Taylor, Deputy Leader of Oldham Council and Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, said: "Our green spaces are a major source of pride for all our residents, and this new park is the latest addition to the list. It will be a beautiful place where families can relax, children can play, and local people can enjoy the outdoors right on their doorstep for generations to come.

"I'd like to thank the teams who have worked so hard on making the park and the wider Broadway Green development a reality. The initiative is building a better future for our residents, with new homes, jobs, and community spaces that are enriching lives. We're going to build on this progress as we continue our work regenerating the town, so everyone knows Oldham is a great place to live."

The council is progressing outdoor community projects across the borough, including the 160-acre Northern Roots scheme, which is turning neglected land into the UK’s largest urban farm and eco-park. Work has also begun on Tommyfield Park, set to bring a wildlife-friendly green space to the town centre.

The park's opening marks another step in Broadway Green’s wider regeneration. Around 500 homes are being built, including approximately 180 affordable properties. The area also features 600,000 square feet of employment space and is creating 2,000 jobs for residents, including roles at the Aldi on Lydia Becker Way, which opened in 2024. The development supports Oldham Council’s pledge to deliver 500 social homes by 2029.
