Network Rail has completed the installation of a new footbridge at Harlington station in Bedfordshire as part of a £7.9 million programme to enhance safety and long-term reliability.
Designed for a 120-year lifespan, the modern structure replaces an ageing bridge, offering a more robust link that improves the experience for passengers while making future maintenance more efficient and cost‑effective.
The bridge was lifted into position over Christmas during a period with no train services, ensuring no impact on passengers. A 300‑tonne crane with a 40‑metre boom placed sections weighing up to 9.1 tonnes.
The scheme also includes renewed platform surfaces, tactile paving and refreshed yellow lines.
Shak Munshi, project manager for Network Rail, said: "We're delighted to have successfully installed the new footbridge at Harlington. This project represents a significant investment in modern, reliable infrastructure that will improve safety and create a better experience for everyone who uses the station. We thank residents for their patience while this work was carried out."
The project is due for completion in spring 2026. Part of the station car park remains closed to accommodate construction facilities in the meantime.
