GBE Launches £1bn Programme To Bolster Clean Energy Supply Chains

Great British Energy (GBE) has unveiled Energy Engineered in the UK (EEUK), a £1 billion programme to scale domestic clean energy supply chains and support long-term economic growth.

A central pillar of EEUK is the launch of the £300 million GBE Supply Chain Fund: Offshore Wind & Networks, targeting urgent manufacturing bottlenecks in blades, turbines, transmission cables and converter stations. The fund aims to expand UK manufacturing capacity and keep the country at the forefront of offshore wind deployment and electricity network innovation.

Positioned within the UK Government's modern Industrial Strategy, the initiative is designed to mobilise public and private capital, deliver high‑value manufacturing, create skilled, well‑paid jobs across the country, and build a more resilient supply chain for future low‑carbon technologies.

GBE will work with partners including the National Wealth Fund, the Scottish National Infrastructure Bank and The Crown Estate to unlock finance for large‑scale manufacturing projects.

To strengthen the UK's position in deepwater (including floating) offshore wind, GBE is also creating a Deepwater Wind Commercialisation Programme with FLOWEX. This whole‑value‑chain effort will prioritise foundations and supporting serialisation, set out clear next steps, timelines and delivery pathways, and drive modularisation and standardisation to cut costs. Working with turbine OEMs and wider industry, it will develop commercial structures and demand signals that create predictable, bankable markets for UK‑made foundations, encouraging long‑term investment.

Great British Energy CEO, Dan McGrail, said: "Great British Energy is investing in British industry, we are helping to create jobs, driving innovation, and ensuring clean energy infrastructure is built here in the UK.

"This programme is about more than funding; it will help overcome the current challenges and ensure the benefits of a world-class supply chain are felt in communities across the country."

Energy Minister, Michael Shanks, said: "We want our clean energy future to be built here in Britain as part of our modern Industrial Strategy.

"This fund will boost our manufacturing capabilities for offshore wind – supporting jobs and growth in communities across the country."

Great British Energy Director of Supply Chains, Rob Gilbert, said: "Energy, Engineered in the UK, is a national initiative to drive down technology costs, crowd in private finance, and use our unique role between the public and private sector to support structured market interventions.

"This programme will help the UK energy sector to learn collectively, scale deliberately, and compete globally – not just on cost, but on homegrown, long-term capability. This will create jobs, economic growth, and energy security for all areas of the UK."

Guidance and the link to the online application portal for the £300 million fund will be available on the GBE website from Thursday morning, alongside supporting documents.

The £1 billion commitment to clean energy supply chains was announced earlier as part of the Industrial Strategy launch. EEUK will provide an initial £300 million in grants via the Supply Chain Fund and invest a further £700 million in renewable energy supply chains within this Parliament, with additional details to follow next year, including an Investment Fund planned for Summer 2026.
