United Infrastructure, a prominent solutions provider for crucial UK infrastructure, has announced that it has entered a definitive agreement to purchase the UK Transmission and Distribution engineering business ("UK T&D") from John Wood Group PLC ("Wood").
This strategic deal represents United Infrastructure's third significant acquisition in the power sector this year, following the successful integration of both Jones and Glenelly Infrastructure Services. The transaction is a major step in broadening the company's expertise across the entire power infrastructure value chain, specifically by moving into transmission—a vital element of the UK's national energy framework.
Wood's UK T&D operation specialises in providing extensive power transmission and distribution solutions to Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) throughout the UK. The unit's work is fundamental to facilitating the nation's shift toward a robust, flexible, and low-carbon grid, thereby assisting in the modernisation and reinforcement of critical national infrastructure.
The UK T&D team possesses deep expertise in areas such as feasibility studies, construction management, engineering, asset optimisation, and commissioning. These services are delivered to enhance grid stability, boost network capacity, and guarantee reliable power supply to businesses and private homes nationwide. Their specific capabilities encompass substation upgrades, network reinforcement (both underground and overhead lines), power flow optimisation, and the integration of smart grid technology.
These specialised services enable DNOs to meet escalating electrification demands, adhere to evolving regulatory standards, and maintain networks that are safe, efficient, and ready for future needs.
Neil Armstrong, Chairman and CEO of United Infrastructure, commented on the strategic importance of the purchase: "The acquisition of Wood's UK Transmission and Distribution business marks a significant milestone for United Infrastructure. It strengthens our expertise across the entire power value chain and reinforces our mission to drive the transition toward a sustainable, resilient energy future. This addition brings exceptional technical capabilities and expanded geographic reach, positioning United Infrastructure to play an even greater role in supporting the UK's energy transition. It perfectly aligns with our strategy to grow in critical national infrastructure and with our unwavering commitment to delivering excellence for our clients and the communities we serve."
The acquisition is currently subject to standard closing conditions and is anticipated to be finalised on 31 December 2025.
