Construction specialist GRAHAM has been appointed by the Department for Education (DfE) to deliver Oasis Academy Temple Quarter, a new state-of-the-art secondary school in the heart of Bristol's Temple Quarter.
Designed to accommodate 1,600 pupils, the £multi-million scheme represents a major investment in education for East Bristol. Construction is due to begin in September 2025, with the school scheduled to open in September 2027.
The development will feature a modern main school building alongside the conversion of a listed former boiler shop into a sports hall. Together, the facilities will provide a gross internal floor area of 12,182m². The project forms part of a wider masterplan for the area, which also includes plans for new residential, commercial, research, enterprise and student accommodation developments.
The school has been designed to offer an inspiring and supportive learning environment, prioritising both educational facilities and student wellbeing. Once complete, it will not only help meet the rising demand for school places but also serve as a community hub and long-term asset for Bristol.
Richard James, Head of School at Oasis Academy Temple Quarter, said: "The development of our permanent site is a major milestone for East Bristol – a community that has long championed high-quality secondary education. While we’ve remained committed to providing a safe and supportive learning environment at our temporary Spring Street site, our new property on Silverthorne Lane will be much more than a building. It will be a lasting home for learning, growth, and community pride. We’re excited to be working with GRAHAM and the Department for Education to bring this vision to life – creating a vibrant, modern space that reflects the ambition and energy of our students and their families."
Peter Reavey, Regional Director at GRAHAM, said: "GRAHAM is delighted to be constructing the new Oasis Academy Temple Quarter scheme in Bristol for the DfE. The start on site for the Project marks several years of hard work by the entire Project Team. We look forward to providing the new learning facility for Oasis Community Learning that generations of school children in the Bristol area will get the benefit from."
