McLaughlin & Harvey has been named as the main contractor on a £33 million project to deliver a new waste transfer station in Barnet.
The Geron Way Waste Transfer Station, commissioned by the London Borough of Barnet Council as part of the wider Brent Cross Cricklewood regeneration programme, will be built for the North London Waste Authority (NLWA). Construction is due to begin in late September.
The 9,000sqm facility will process waste and recycling for Barnet and six other North London boroughs. It has been designed with a strong focus on sustainability, featuring living roofs, noise and odour controls, and measures to enhance biodiversity.
Martin Keys, Operations Director at McLaughlin & Harvey, said: "McLaughlin & Harvey have been building a successful portfolio of significant construction and civil engineering across the London and South East region over recent years. Geron Way Waste Transfer Station is another example of the capability and expertise we have in working with our clients to deliver excellent infrastructure that enhances local communities."
Construction works will include piled foundations, a steel frame superstructure, and external landscaping. The project is targeting a BREEAM Very Good rating, with the design aimed at reducing the impact of operations on local residents while improving environmental performance.
