Galliford Try has announced that its Infrastructure business has been appointed to deliver the Banwell bypass project in North Somerset, under a contract worth £66.5 million.
Commissioned by North Somerset Council and funded through the Homes England Housing Infrastructure Fund, the project was secured via the Procure Partnerships Framework. The bypass aims to ease congestion on the A38 route towards Weston-super-Mare by addressing a key pinch point north of Banwell village. In addition to relieving traffic pressure, the scheme will open up opportunities for future housing development and introduce new walking, cycling, and horse-riding routes.
The Banwell project adds to a growing list of major contract wins for Galliford Try's Infrastructure business, following the successful award of the South East Aylesbury Link Road and the finalisation of the A47 improvement schemes at Tuddenham and Blofeld in Norfolk.
David Lowery, Divisional Managing Director for Galliford Try Infrastructure, said: "We are delighted that our Infrastructure business has been awarded another significant bypass project in the Local Authority sector, a core focus for our Sustainable Growth Strategy. We look forward to working with North Somerset Council to deliver a high-quality scheme that will improve the lives of local people."
Construction work is expected to begin soon, with the bypass seen as a critical development in supporting North Somerset’s long-term infrastructure and housing plans.
