Planning permission has been granted for the construction of a new primary school in the heart of the Hartland Village development.
The new school, which will be built as part of the larger Hartland Village development that will eventually include 1,500 homes, is a key step in addressing the area's expanding population. Despite a broader decline in primary school numbers in the Hart region, this new facility aims to provide a high-quality, modern education for local children.
The school will open with 30 places for Reception-year pupils, with plans to gradually expand to accommodate up to 420 students aged 4 to 11. As the Hartland development continues to grow, the school is designed with flexibility in mind, with potential for further expansion in the future. The revised opening date, now set for 2026, aligns with the completion of surrounding housing, ensuring the school will have sufficient local demand when it opens. At that time, it will be fully funded by the Department for Education.
Current housing forecasts indicate that secondary school capacity in the area will be adequate for the foreseeable future, alleviating concerns about overcrowding in local secondary schools.
Designed with modern classrooms, a well-equipped learning resource centre, and expansive outdoor play areas, the school will offer state-of-the-art facilities to enhance the learning experience. The design also prioritises sustainability, incorporating eco-friendly features to minimise its environmental footprint.
The Circle Trust has been appointed to manage and run the school as an academy, ensuring a high standard of education and care for the children of Hartland Village.
