Keepmoat Invests £580,000 In Biodiversity Projects Across West Yorkshire

Construction News Image
Housebuilder Keepmoat is investing over £580,000 to support Wakefield Council in delivering environmental and ecological benefits for the local area, with a particular focus on enhancing biodiversity.

The investment will bolster the efforts of the Council's Countryside and Green Spaces (Street Scene) team, which works to maintain and improve natural habitats across the district to help native wildlife flourish. The funds will be allocated across Keepmoat's The Vale development in Upton and Station View development in South Elmsall, specifically targeting Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) initiatives in Pontefract.

Wakefield Council has been developing BNG incentives to support habitat management for these two developments. The investment will also aid in monitoring and managing local nature reserves, including the Former Upton Colliery, which is directly benefiting from Keepmoat's funding.

Following the initial planning phase, Keepmoat's investment will be used to roll out habitat management strategies and on-the-ground monitoring. These efforts align with new UK regulations introduced this year, requiring developers to deliver at least a 10% BNG for all new developments in England. The regulation ensures that construction projects contribute positively to the natural environment.

Both The Vale and Station View are flagship schemes for Keepmoat under the new BNG legislation, exemplifying how housebuilders can balance development with environmental stewardship.
