Neptune’s latest range comprises of five separate products, which collectively make up our Friendship range. These products are benches, planters, seats, tables, and bins.



All of these are made from brightly coloured, and highly durable recycled plastic as well as metal and in some cases, such as the Southampton Friendship Seat, concrete legs.
In the Friendship range, most products are capable and designed to be free standing. However, they can also be fixed to the floor, for extra support and strength. The nature of these products ensures they are easy to move and customise with other products in the group.

Neptune’s seats and benches are all built in standard adult street furniture sizes but are suitable for all age groups. Because of the versatility of these benches, it allows you to customise products in a variety of ways, including, but not limited to, the colour of the recycled plastic slats and the engravings on each slat. The engravings are completely optional and can be on as many or as little slats as you would like.

Neptune’s Friendship Seats and Buddy Benches can be personalised with engraved inscriptions designed to help spread the message of inclusion and kindness in schools. The idea behind the Friendship Range is that lunchtime supervisors, all pupils or designated pupils look after, chat or play with any child sat on a friendship seat or buddy bench.

The Parent Teacher Association (PTA's) work hard to support schools and could be a great way of helping to raise the necessary funds for a new Buddy Bench or Friendship seat to add to the playground. Anti-Bullying week is a particularly good time to fund raise for something that will enhance the playground and be around to help and support children at the school for many years to come.

Earlier this year Neptune Street Furniture got to work closely with St. Monica’s Primary School in Sholing, Southampton to produce one of their famous Buddy Benches for the school in memoriam of a pupil who tragically passed away.

Zoe Donneaud was loved by fellow pupils and staff and was unfortunately taken far too soon due to a brain tumour. To remember her and honour her legacy, her parents and the school wanted to get a bench made ready for when her classmates graduated from Year Six and moved onto Secondary School.

This bench was bespoke to the school, with custom engraving applied on the recycled plastic slats and now sits proudly on the school grounds for all to take advantage of. The Buddy Bench is situated next to a tree which was planted in her name, which will grow and give pupils old and new a reminder of Zoe and the kind and pure heart she possessed.

Neptune Street Furniture has been making street furniture since the 1960’s, pushing innovation, design and being at the forefront of trends. In 2016 they started producing and manufacturing ‘Buddy Benches’. These benches were designed to give school children who are feeling low or are lacking friends to play with at break times, a safe place to go to and to find someone to talk to. Whether this be other pupils, teachers, or playground monitors.

Their standard ‘Buddy Bench’ is their ever popular ‘Kingston’ seat, which is now available in two lengths – 1500mm and 1800mm long. These have above ground seat ends, which are freestanding, but can also be attached to the ground, for more stability. The newly launched ‘Medlock Buddy Bench’ is a smaller design, coming in at a length of 1350mm. This choice in design was to allow the benches to be more suitable for smaller spaces and smaller budgets. Fitting in with the aesthetics and furniture of any play group or preschool.

The ‘Medlock’ seat comes with a wide variety of customisation options, making each bench unique to the customer’s order. Customers can choose from either wooden slats or recycled plastic lumber, which comes in two different colours and styles. Neptune Street Furniture offer a plain brown plastic, giving the aesthetics of wood or, for customers who are after a bit more colour and style, there is the multi-coloured slat option, where customers can choose the placement and order of the slats themselves.

These recycled plastic slats are not only great for the environment but are very durable, vandal-proof and maintenance-free with no need to stain or paint as the lovely bright colours go all the way through.

The ‘Medlock Buddy Bench’ also has two slight variations in design options for the legs, allowing the customer to choose whether to have a back rest or not. This means that customers can either choose between having a bench or a seat to suit their location.

Most of Neptune’s furniture range has the option to be engraved, whether this be on plastic or on wood, these engravings can have any wording the customer may request. Furthermore, if the plastic slats style is chosen and engraved, then there is also the additional option of having plastic infills, which again, comes with a choice of colour too.

The magnitude of design and colour choices available to the customer also means that this range is suitable for virtually any business and establishment, not just those in the education sector, with choices that makes this product versatile and accommodates everyone’s needs and wants.

All Neptune Street Furnitures benches come pre-assembled and delivered on a pallet by a courier, so they are quick and easy to locate and then enjoy.

Neptune Street Furniture, one of the pioneers of the Buddy Bench in the United Kingdom, recently produced one of their ever-popular Kingston Buddy Benches for Wheeler Primary School in Hull. The school got in contact with the company to enquire about having one of their Buddy Benches as a memorial for a recently deceased teacher.

The Buddy Bench which was manufactured was slightly different to their normal standard product as Wheeler Primary School wanted to make it unique and special to their school. Instead of choosing the default random colours, the school went for the “rainbow” coloured slats, which produces a beautiful and eye-catching colour display for all to see. Not only did they opt for the alternative colour scheme, but they also had a bespoke Stainless Steel plaque engraved and affixed to the seat.

The plaque they asked for had the words “Treasured memories of Mrs Graham”, this was in memory of their beloved teacher, colleague and friend. Additionally, Wheeler Primary wanted engravings on the other two back slats. Neptune Street Furniture offers the opportunity to engrave any message (subject to space) you wish on any of the seat slats. These can be words, a phrase, a motto, or even small images, such as handprints or stars. These additional design options means that every Buddy Bench Neptune Street Furniture produce is bespoke and unique to each individual order.

All of their Buddy Benches and their subsequent Friendship Range, are produced out of recycled plastic lumber, meaning that not only are the products such as benches and planters, great for brightening up a school playground or field, but they are also great for the environment too! Wincanton Primary School, located in Somerset, approached us in late 2020 and enquired whether we could make them a couple of our Buddy Benches, but instead of the standard random colours they asked for all the slats to be in blue as they wanted them to match their school colour. They also further requested, if we could engrave the words “Buddy Bench” onto the middle slat and include two handprints on said benches. These engravings were filled in with white acrylic, which was cut out on our state-of-the-art laser cutter so that the words and handprints would really stand out.

Fast forward one month and Wincanton once again got in contact and commented to us, “We love the buddy benches so much that we would like to order another two exactly the same please” and with that glowing review we got hard at work producing two more benches for them.

These benches come with the options and capabilities to be fully customised in our workshop located in Hampshire, with the opportunity to choose from a vast selection of colours, infills and engraving of your choice so each one we manufacture is truly unique and personal to the school it is going to.

One of the best meanings of rainbows is assurance and appreciation, which is why it makes such a great symbol for the NHS and has been so widely used over the last year as a sign of thanks for all their hard work. Neptune Street Furniture have developed a range of Rainbow seats manufactured in brightly coloured eco-friendly recycled plastic. A rainbow seat brings colour and joy to any park or garden but also gives the opportunity for reflection and enjoyment of our surroundings.

Used by the NHS these Rainbow seats have been used to brighten up hospitals and gardens, as friendship seats, buddy benches or as memorial seats for lost members of staff. The colourful slats can be personalised by being engraved with meaningful quotes or memories of loved ones.

Working with artist Sarah Filmer we manufactured picnic tables and benches from our 'Southampton' range for a new social space on the old Ford Motors factory site in Southampton. The space invites people to socialise, either for intimate chats on the smaller benches, large groups gathering round the picnic table or playing games on the fixed chequer board.

On the benches and table top visitors will see signatures of Ford workers engraved into the wood as a reminder of one use of the site, with the chequer board harking back to a time when there were children refugees from the Spanish Civil War.

Manufactured with exposed aggregate concrete legs cemented into place, the hardwood slats were engraved with the workers signatures using our CNC machines.
