Progress Continues On £1bn Stockport Investment Programme

Construction News Image
Progress is continuing on a £1 billion investment programme in Stockport.

So far, the 'Investing in Stockport' initiative has seen new restaurants, cafés, shops and an art gallery open for the first time across the town.

Work has included creating a new business district around Stockport train station at Stockport Exchange, erecting steel frames for a £45 million Redrock Stockport leisure development, and transforming the former Gorsey Bank area into a 145,000 sq ft Aurora Stockport industrial park.

Improvements are also being carried out to transport links, while investments have been made at the historic Market Place and Underbanks areas.

Proposals are now in place to create a Business Improvement District in the town centre and a vote on the plans is to be held next month.

Cllr Kate Butler said: "I'm delighted to welcome every new business to Stockport. I'm sure each of them will be a great addition to our town and I wish them all a long and successful future.

"Any visitors to Stockport town centre will have seen with their own eyes the work that is taking place at the moment. The scale of this is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity for Stockport, and it is really exciting to think about the benefits and opportunities this is creating for residents and businesses."
