Coventry City Council Reveals Designs For £36.7m Water Park

Construction News Image
Coventry City Council has revealed designs for a new £36.7 million city centre water park.

The new facility is being designed by architects FaulknerBrowns and will be built on the site of Spire and Christchurch House.

It will include a water park with slides, a 25-metre swimming pool, a gym, climbing wall, squash courts, a dance studio and day spa.

Specialists Water Technology Inc. (WTI) are providing specialist advice on the design of the pools and indoor features which could include a wave pool, lazy river, children's splash pad, children's play structure and six water slides.

A planning application is expected to be submitted to the council in May.

Councillor Abdul Khan said: "We set a really tough challenge to the design team, demanding a landmark building that fits into our city centre and that's exactly what the team has delivered. The quality of the design sets a new standard – one we will expect all new developments in the city centre to match.

"We believe our proposal for a water park and 25m pool with day spa facilities will be a real hit with residents and we've been able to plan a range of rides to suit everyone – from the bravest thrill seeker to the youngest user."

Construction work is set to start on site next spring with a planned opening date in late 2018.
