E.ON Submits Scoping Statement For Proposed New Wind Farm

Energy company E.ON has announced plans to build a new wind farm near to Kirkby Lonsdale, on the county border between Lancashire and Cumbria.

At around 20 MW the proposed Longfield Tarn wind farm would be made up of around nine turbines and could provide enough power to supply up to 9,000 homes with power for up to a year and displace approximately 19,000 tonnes of CO2.

E.ON has submitted the scoping statement to Lancaster City Council and other interested parties outlining its plans, and intends to submit a full planning application in 2010.

Nick Taylor, Project Developer at E.ON, said: "It's still very early days for the project but we do believe this is an excellent location for a wind farm. Over the coming months we'll begin further studies in the area and will keep local people informed of our progress at every stage.

"It's through developments like this that we can change the way we produce energy, helping us to keep people's lights on, while reducing our impact on the environment."
