Engineering Analysis
Stress Analysis
Stress Analysis is the most basic form of FEA and has many advantages compared to conventional hand calculations. Rather than reducing complex structures to simplified models, FEA permits the entire structure to be analysed, thus enabling a better understanding of the load distribution, displacement and stress state.
Fatigue Analysis
Fatigue is the study of a particular failure mechanism when structures if subjected to sufficient and repeated applications of load (load cycling), cause cracks to initiate, then grow until, if not detected, eventually leading to complete failure. This failure mechanism, while complex to analyse, is very important in engineering analysis as it is the cause of the majority of engineering failures, with over 80% of all failures attributed to some form of fatigue failure.
Ultimate Capacity Analysis
Ultimate Capacity or Limit State analysis (ULS) is an another important form of analysis, especially for tall and slender structures, particularly those manufactured from long sections, such as beams, columns, or thin shells.
Dynamic Analysis
Dynamic analysis is the study of the behaviour or response of a structure when subjected to various types of excitation loading. Natural frequencies and their mode shapes (frequency spectrum) are the frequencies at which the structure shall respond and vibrate freely. These are very important in dynamic analysis and their prediction is the essential first step in determining true dynamic response of a structure.
