AMK Plant & Tipper Hire Ltd has further strengthened its already substantial fleet with the addition of a brand-new DAF FAD XD450 Construction 8x4 tipper, marking the company’s first acquisition of a DAF tipper truck. The deal was done within three weeks, with the vehicle supplied by MV Commercial and financed through MV Asset Finance, reinforcing the benefits of the inhouse finance company.

AMK operates a large and diverse fleet, predominantly comprising Scania and DAF vehicles, supporting construction and infrastructure projects across the Scotland. While the company has historically invested in high-quality used vehicles, this latest addition represents a strategic step into new vehicle procurement, underlining AMK’s continued growth and confidence in its future operations.

The 32-tonne DAF XD450 Construction tipper has been specified with a Traxon automatic transmission and sleeper cab for night out work, delivering robust on-site capability alongside improved driver comfort and efficiency.

“We already run a sizeable fleet, mainly Scanias and DAFs, but this is the first time we’ve invested in a brand-new truck. Working with MV Commercial made the process straightforward: they sourced the vehicle, helped us get the specification exactly right, introduced us the MV Asset Finance, and ultimately got it on the road quickly. That relationship and trust was a key factor for us.”

The close working relationship between AMK and MV Commercial ensured a seamless process from vehicle specification to delivery, while the in-house finance support from MV Asset Finance enabled a fast and efficient funding solution.

Alec added:

“Using MV’s in-house finance team, MV Asset Finance, made a huge difference. MV offers the complete package, vehicle supply, specification and finance all under one roof. From the first call to standing here with the truck took just three weeks, which is exceptional.”

“Alec and the AMK team were clear on what they needed from day one. Our job was to source the right DAF, get the specification nailed down quickly and keep everything moving so the truck could be delivered and earning as soon as possible. When you’ve got a strong relationship and everyone is aligned, you can turn it around fast, and this deal shows exactly that.”

Adam Aspden, Head of Sales at MV Asset Finance, added:

“This deal is a great example of how the right finance solution can support business growth. AMK is an established operator with a strong fleet, and this first move into a new vehicle is a positive step forward. Our role was to make the financing straightforward and aligned with their growth plans, allowing them to invest in the asset with confidence and keep their focus on operations.”

The addition of the new DAF XD450 tipper strengthens AMK’s fleet capability and demonstrates how close collaboration between MV Commercial, MV Asset Finance and AMK can deliver rapid, effective solutions that support long-term growth.
As truck and van registrations soften across the UK, the operators who continue to grow are not simply investing to grow, they are investing for growth and resilience.

They are using asset finance deliberately as a strategic lever to support controlled expansion, protect cash flow, and scale with confidence.

At MV Asset Finance, we see finance shaping fleet resilience every day, particularly when vehicle availability and funding are aligned through MV Commercial’s fleet of Ready to Go Trucks.

“MV Commercial has consistently bucked the trend by supplying high volumes of trucks, trailers, and vans despite wider market contraction. This performance is supported by large scale UK manufacturing and body building facilities, significant ready to go fleet availability, and funding structures delivered through MV Asset Finance that allow operators to act decisively.”

Why asset finance now sits at the centre of fleet strategy

For many operators, demand has remained stable or has recovered faster than expected in certain sectors.

The real constraints have been timing, capital deployment, and asset availability. Operators running ageing fleets face compounding risks such as higher maintenance spend, reduced uptime, and lost revenue from vehicle downtime.

Government findings show that the average age of the UK HGV fleet continues to rise. From a financial perspective, this increases whole life cost even if headline purchase prices are avoided.

Asset finance exists to break the cycle of aging stock by allowing earlier replacement without capital shock.

How finance structure changes outcomes

At MV Asset Finance, we start by understanding how vehicles generate revenue.

A tractor unit working consistent long haul routes under contract will justify a different structure to a specialist trailer or a regional van fleet.

For example:

A logistics operator funding ten tractor units through Hire Purchase over five years can align repayments directly to contracted revenue, while retaining ownership at the end of the term.
A mixed fleet operator using Finance Lease for trailers can maintain flexibility, with options to refinance, extend use, or rotate assets as contracts change.
We also consider residual value exposure, maintenance curves, and downtime risk. Finance should support operational resilience, not simply fund acquisition.
